  • Cost Sharing Program

The Upper Chama Soil and Water Conservation District (UCSWCD) is administering a project entitled “Building Resiliency in the Upper Rio Chama Watershed”. This is a cost share program available to any landowner whose property lies within the UCSWCD boundaries. The main priority of the program is to reduce heavy forest fuel loads which in turn reduces the threat of catastrophic wildfires, reduces the intensity of wildfires and minimizes the impacts of flooding and erosion. This will be accomplished through forest thinning by mechanical means or hand thinning. Other watershed rehabilitation practices can also be implemented which provide ecosystem benefits for livestock, wildlife, fisheries, acequias and erosion control.

Applications to participate in this cost share program will be available starting on Monday April 3, 2023 at the UCSWCD office in Tierra Amarilla and on their website www.upperchamaswcd.net. The office is open Monday through Thursday 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Applications will be prioritized on a first come first serve basis and must be submitted in person.
